Since November 2005, Norbert Burger holds the position as Managing Director of the ‘Micro and Nano Science Platform’ of the ETH Zurich. The ‘Micro and Nano Science Platform’ is a network of researchers within ETH Zurich with the goal to promote research and education as well as technology development and transfer in the field of micro and nano sciences.

• Research Interests
Besides his activities in the buildup of the micro and nano science network, Norbert is currently studying towards his PhD in ‘Success factors for micro and nanosystems innovations‘ under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Fleisch and Prof. Dr. Hierold. He is researching key factors which release, drive and lead to successful innovations in these technologies. His main interest lies in adopting an inter-disciplinary approach towards innovation which reflects the interdependence between technology and process innovation, market requirements, management decisions, as well as some scenario building for future evolution of technology innovations for micro and nanosystems.

• Professional Background
After his studies, Norbert Burger completed during 2 years an international graduate program at Siemens AG (Siemens Graduate Program) in different disciplines and countries. From 2000 to 2002, he worked as a Corporate Commodity Manager Memories at Siemens Karlsruhe and moved end 2002 to Switzerland. At Siemens Schweiz AG, he took over the responsibilities as a Global Commodity Manager Electronics with a strong cooperation on corporate level with Siemens Global Procurement.

• Curriculum Vitae
Norbert Burger is a German citizen who gathered his professional and academic experience in several countries. From 1992 to 1997, he studied mechanical engineering at the Universität Karlsruhe (TH) in Germany, ENSAM Ecole National Supérieure des Art et Métier (ENSAM) Bordeaux in France and completed his thesis at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería (ETSI) de Bilbao in Spain.

• Hobbies
His favourite leisure activities combine several interests like traveling, photography and other languages. Being now several years in Switzerland hiking, climbing, Rock ‘n’ Roll and inline-skating became also of very high interest to him.
