Girardello, Andrea

Andrea Girardello is a PhD candidate at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich (ETH Zürich), Switzerland since December 2009. Andrea obtained a M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Free University of Bolzano, Italy in July 2009. His diploma thesis focused on non-invasive measurement of mobile phone usage and its analysis applied to the software development process.

Current projects

AppAware: a mobile application which shares online installations, updates and removals of Android applications. In this way the user becomes aware (App-Aware) of what other users are installing on their Android phones right now!

TwiPhone: a prototype application for mobile phones which shares call logs and text messages on the Twitter online social network, thus connecting real life communications and virtual relationships

Thesis projects proposals

Visualizations of activities in a social market for mobile applications
This work is about the visualization (mobile and desktop versions are going to be considered) of data collected through the AppAware social market, a mobile application which shares online installations, updates and removals of Android applications. We have currently various ideas for visualizing the triplet "user-application-location" and we are looking for a student interested in this project. We also very welcome your ideas and input and are looking forward to you joining our team.
